Before the Festival

Bag Stuffer

Assemble “Swag Bags” for attendees, putting different types of advertisement and treats¬†in bags. This will take place at the CAA office located at 2100 1st Ave S in Minneapolis.

  • Benefits: meet and talk with like-minded volunteers! Food will be served.
  • Requirements: fast-learners who can work quickly and efficiently and don’t mind repetition
  • Time:
    • Thursday, Sept. 25, 6:00-9:00pm (1 available)

Equipment Loader

Load equipment into vehicles the evening before the festival. This will take place at the CAA office located at 2100 1st Ave S in Minneapolis.

  • Requirements: able to lift heavy objects (25 lbs)
  • Benefits: meet other CAA volunteers
  • Time:
    • Friday, September 26, 5:00pm – 6:30pm (1 available)

At the Festival

All day-of volunteers will receive a free Twin Cities Veg Fest shirt!

Setup Volunteer – FILLED

Put down tablecloths, set up CAA table, set up water stations, help exhibitors carry things if needed, etc.

  • Requirements: helpful direction-follower who is able to lift heavy objects (25 lbs)
  • Benefits: meet different exhibitors with veg-friendly products
  • Time:
    • 8:00am – 10:00am

Sign Language Interpreter

Provide sign language interpretation services for attendees who need this; interpret talks that these attendees would like to attend.

  • Requirements: experience with sign language interpretation; friendly; capable of real-time interpretation
  • Benefits: meet other CAA volunteers; help make this event more accessible
  • Time:

Speaker Monitor – FILLED

Help speakers set up, be the contact for any technical difficulties, answer questions that attendees may have regarding speaker agenda.

  • Requirements: professional, friendly people-person ready to help our distinguished speakers
  • Benefits: meet reputable experts in the field and connect with great people
  • Time:
    • 10:15am – 1:30pm
    • 1:15pm – 3:30pm

Maintenance

Monitor water stations and refill as needed, monitor trash receptacles and empty as needed, monitor compost station and help attendees sort their compost and trash.

  • Requirements: tough heavy-lifter who can tolerate trash and carry heavy water jugs
  • Benefits: learn about composting, teach others about compostable options and improve our environment
  • Time:

CAA Table – FILLED

Staff the CAA table and answer questions from attendees.

  • Requirements: knowledgeable, involved CAA volunteer who is good with people
  • Benefits: educate the public about animal issues and veganism
  • Time:

Pay-Per-View Video Table – FILLED

Staff the Pay-Per-View table and pay people $1 to watch a short video on factory farming.

  • Requirements: knowledgeable, involved CAA volunteer who is good with people
  • Benefits: educate the public about animal issues and veganism

Food Giveaway Table – FILLED

Staff the food giveaway table. Prepare donated food and answer questions from attendees.

  • Requirements: hard worker who can follow food safety rules (gloves, hairnets, etc.) who is outgoing and friendly
  • Benefits: try some samples (you have to know what you’re giving away) and educate the public about tasty vegan food
  • Time:
    • 9:45am – 1:00pm

Veg Fest Table – FILLED

Staff the Veg Fest info table and answer questions from attendees; encourage people to fill out an evaluation form so they can enter the raffle and maintain records needed for raffle; handle volunteer check-ins.

  • Requirements: knowledgeable, involved CAA volunteer who is good with people
  • Benefits: help others navigate the event and meet a variety of people
  • Time:

Greeter – FILLED

Welcome attendees and hand out swag bags and programs.

  • Requirements: friendly person who is upbeat, cheerful, and welcoming and has a basic knowledge of the event
  • Benefits: help others navigate the event and meet a variety of people
  • Time:
    • 9:45am – 1:00pm
    • 12:45pm – 4:00pm

Floater – FILLED

Staff the info table, run errands as needed, and fill staffing gaps.

  • Requirements: flexible laid-back volunteer who can go with the flow and respond to our needs as necessary with knowledge of CAA and the event
  • Benefits: do a variety of tasks throughout the day to help others navigate the event; meet a variety of people
  • Time:
    • 9:45am – 1:00pm
    • 12:45pm – 4:00pm

Survey Collector

Approach individual attendees and offer coupon incentive in exchange for their participation in a two-part online survey, and collect email addresses from willing participants.

  • Requirements: friendly volunteer who has legible handwriting and can move around the festival carrying clipboard for extended periods
  • Benefits: meet lots of festival attendees and help facilitate a vital research project that will help us improve the festival
  • Time:
    • Training 9:45am – 10:00am (first shift survey collectors)
    • 10:15am – 1:15pm – FILLED
    • Training 12:45pm – 1:00pm (second shift survey collectors)

Tech Support

Help with technical difficulties as needed, particular with speakers and projection system.

  • Requirements: tech-savvy computer person who likes working with various electronic equipment
  • Benefits: use your tech skills and meet new people

Kids Area Helper – FILLED

Cooking Demo Helper – FILLED

Help cooks set up for cooking demonstrations, pass out samples, and help clean the demo table between cooks.

  • Requirements: outgoing, friendly person with basic cooking sklils
  • Benefits: meet vegan chefs and sample the food!

Photographer – FILLED

Take photos of the event as well as photos to demonstrate for next year’s festival how we set up the table, the concert area, speakers room, etc.

  • Requirements: outgoing photographer (preferably with a professional camera) with an eye for framing and an idea of what images we can use to promote next year’s event
  • Benefits: show off your photography skills and/or gain experience and expertise
  • Time:
    • 9:45am – 1:00pm
    • 12:45pm – 4:00pm

Cleanup – FILLED

Pack up, help exhibitors carry things if needed; clean space as needed.

Evening Transport

Load, haul and unload equipment and supplies from Coffman to the CAA office (2100 1st Ave S).

  • Requirements: vehicle-owners (preferably vans or pickup trucks) who are able to lift heavy objects (25 lbs)
  • Benefits: meet other CAA volunteers; help wrap up the event
  • Time:

Data Entry

Enter comments and information from evaluations or other data forms. This will take place at the CAA office located at 2100 1st Ave S in Minneapolis.

  • Requirements: comfortable with computers and strong attention to detail
  • Benefits: meet other CAA volunteers, hang out and listen to music while you type
